I had Everly in 3.5 hours, including labor and delivery. The end.
While that’s the shortest labor and birth story ever, let me elaborate on some of the details. I had just sold my car of 13 years that happened to break down a few weeks before Everly was born (it must have been a sign) and I was chilling on the couch with my husband when I heard a soft pop that sounded like a balloon popping under water. A few seconds later, water started trickling out and I knew my water broke. This was at 3:30pm. I didn’t have any contractions and I felt fine. I called my mom and told her. She told me I had to hurry to the hospital right away, but I was like, no I’m fine so I proceeded to cook and clean around the house for an hour. My mom kept calling John and I saying how dangerous it could be if I don’t go to the hospital right away, so I decided to call my doctor to see what she had to say. My doctor said I should head over to the hospital since there was no protection for the baby so we started packing our stuff.
We arrived at the hospital around 5pm. The nurse checked me and said I was only 2 cm dilated and said she might have to give me pitocin to speed up the process. I wanted to have an all natural birth so I wanted to see if I could progress on my own. They gave me 2-2.5 hours to see how much I would progress. Come 7:30pm and there wasn’t much progress. I was still at about 2cm. They gave me pitocin around 8pm and then all the magic started happening.
It hit me like a truck. Apparently my body responded very well to pitocin and I went from 0 to 60 in two seconds. The contractions came hard and heavy. I really didn’t want an epidural, but the pain was unbearable and I couldn’t breathe or think. They called the anesthesiologist (Dr. Lee, an old Korean man) and he and my nurse were fighting over how to the put in the IV. I was writhing and dying, but they proceeded to argue. Dr. Lee started yelling at the staff saying he didn’t have the proper gauze/materials for the procedure. I was still dying at this point. After he gathered all his materials, he yells at me to stay still because if I don’t, we could be there all night. My contractions must have been 3-5 minutes apart by now. I hunch over and try to stay as still as my body would allow. I finally get the needle in the spine and can’t wait to take a nap. My nurse checks me and says that I’m fully dilated and ready to push. I was like, “Are you serious”? They started prepping and I only pushed for 30-45 min and out came Everly, 7lbs 8oz at 11:34pm. I didn’t feel anything because I got the epidural so late, so pushing was actually really easy for me in terms of the pain. It sucked that I couldn’t feel myself push. So there you have it. 3.5 hours of labor and delivery for a first time mom. Unheard of right?

Thank you Jessie! 3.5 is nothing compared to the moms who labor for a whole day or more! Hahaha glad I wasn’t one of those. π
Congratulations on giving a baby! SO happy to read your story, and you are so lucky to have a short period of labor. You are looking gorgeous, mommy!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad I had a short labor too, lol. π

Thank you so much Candace! I seriously didn’t feel anything after my water broke. It was only after that Pitocin…
I’m glad you had a safe delivery girl, and it’s even sweeter when it’s a short one. My two boys were at least 8-12 plus hours in labor for sure. You are looking amazing mama in those boots.

Thank you so much Gabriela! Wow, I don’t know what I would do if I had to be in labor for 8+ hours… Hopefully the next one will be short too!

Wow 3 kids? That’s awesome! I think I’ll only have 2 hahaha…maybe even the one, lol.
What an incredible experience! I remember having my babies and if the first comes early, you will be lucky and the others will come earlier or around the same amount of time. It’s great that you had a fast labor as it makes it go by faster. All of mine were fast too and next time if you don’t get the Pitocin, you can totally have a natural delivery! I heard the Pitocin makes the contractions a lot harder than if you were to go naturally. Thanks for sharing and congrats new mommy! xoxo, Christine

No wonder my contractions were so strong. I hope I can skip the pitocin next time!
Haha, after that first sentence I was like, darn, it really WAS short, but even after reading your birth story I still think it (despite some stuff) easily and all of a sudden you were the mother of a little cutie named Everly! Also, love, love, love the boots!

Thank you so much! It was pretty easy compared to other moms who had to labor for 30 hours only to get a C-section. (Ali Wong hahaha) π

Girl, those boots! And I loved reading about how Everly’s birth went. Glad it wasn’t so painful and it didn’t even take that long! I hear so many stories that it takes hours…. I’m so scared to ever give birth myself one day. Again biggest congratulations!
